Cardinals Place Third At Messiah Invite
GRATHAM, Pa. - The Catholic University women's track and field
squad placed third at the Messiah Invitational Saturday in
Pennsylvania. The Cardinals scored 59 points placing behind Messiah
and Gettysburg in the 17-team meet where they also competed against
Landmark-rival Goucher College who was 14th.
On the track, four individual runners placed in the top ten.
Freshman Rachel Won (Kaneohe, Hi./'Iolani School) was second in the
400 hurdles in a time of 1:09.26. Won also ran in the 100 hurdles
where she was sixth in the finals clocking a 16.59. CUA also had
two outstanding performances in the 5,000 meters. Junior Jenna
Hackett (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) placed second running a
19:19.59 while senior Alys Cheatle (Hickory, N.C./St. Stevens) was
right behind her in fifth place with a 20:12.37. The Cardinals also
did well in the relays with the 4x800 relay coming in first with a
time of 10:06.93.
In the field events, freshman Nwakaego Ekwuabu (Jericho, Vt./Mt.
Mansfield Union) took fifth in the discus throwing it 31.49
meters.
CUA will travel to Widener University next Saturday for the final
meet before the conference championships.
