Anna Heim Wins Pole Vault At Historic Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Moravian College junior Anna Heim
(Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) won the Women's College Pole Vault
at the 115th Penn Relays Thursday.
She was the only NCAA Division III competitor, and one of only two
non-NCAA Division I vaulters in the field of 35. Heim cleared an
NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying height of 3.80
meters (12 feet, 5 1/2 inches). She vaulted six inches higher than
any other competitor. Lesley Bautista from The College of Holy
Cross led a group of six vaulters at 3.65 meters (11 feet, 11 3/4
inches). A total of 27 of the 35 competitors registered a height in
the event.
Also competing for the Landmark was junior Paul Thistle (Blue Bell,
Pa./Wissahickon) represented Susquehanna University in the Olympic
Development section of the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Day One of
the Penn Relays, held at the University of Pennsylvania’s
Franklin Field on April 23.
Thistle placed 11th in his heat out of a diverse field of 18
athletes, including many unattached and NCAA Division I and II
runners, with a time of 9 minutes, 25.27 seconds. He bested three
Division I athletes with that time.
