Moravian Women Picked to Repeat as Landmark Champions

TOWSON, Md. – Moravian College received four first place votes and 47 total points on its way to the top ranking in the 2013-14 Landmark Women's Indoor Track & Field Preseason Poll. Susquehanna University sits second after collecting 41 points, including the final two first place votes. Catholic University was picked third with 29 points.

Moravian looks to win its seventh straight Landmark title this season. The Greyhounds lost six-time All-American Micah Leonard to graduation, but have a strong core returning that accounted for 12 All-Conference honors indoors and 17 All-Conference honors outdoors last season. Sophomore Corinne Glass was the Landmark Indoor Co-Rookie of the Year while junior Brielle Sutter was the Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year. Hailey Kester also returns after earning All-America honors in the pole vault outdoors last May.

Susquehanna returns three-sport Rookie of the Year Ashley West (cross country, indoor, outdoor) and replaces senior thrower Jess Ranck with a talented freshman in Renea Broscious. The cross country team is coming off a third-place finish at the Landmark championship meet, a two-spot improvement from 2012, with the women anxious to contribute this winter.

Catholic returns top throwers Mary Clark and Megan Ross who earned All-Landmark honors a year ago. The Cardinals will have to replace All-Landmark performers Laura Kinley and Keely Eckberg, but a number of the cross country runners will transition over to track. Courtney Doran returns to the team after studying abroad last year and there are quality newcomers ready to compete.

Juniata College was picked fourth in the poll with 21 points while Goucher College and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy tied for fifth with nine points apiece.

The 2013-14 season kicks off this weekend with five of the six teams in action. All six conference teams will compete at the Landmark Championships March 1 at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa.
