Scranton Wins Final Tuneup Before Landmark Weekend
SCRANTON, Pa. - Junior middle blocker Abby Barrett (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) recorded her seventh ‘double-double' of the season with 14 kills and 12 digs to lead The University of Scranton to a 3-0 victory (30-19, 30-16, 30-8) over Lycoming College in non-conference action Wednesday evening at the Long Center.
The Royals also received solid performances from senior middle blocker Brooke Hinkley (Hallstead, Pa./Blue Ridge), who finished with 10 kills and eight total blocks, and junior left-side hitter Jaclyn Bromley (Norrstown, Pa./Archbishop Carroll), who had seven kills and five total blocks, to snap a four-match losing streak to improve to 15-8 on the season. Lycoming, which fell to 3-18, was led by junior outside hitter Heather Frantz (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) with eight kills and three total blocks, and sophomore setter Abby Myers (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) contributed 19 assists.
Junior defensive specialist Meaghan Curtin (Hicksville, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) had a season-high six of the Royals' 10 service aces and junior setter Jenn McKeighan (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) finished with 33 assists.
Scranton will take on Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action this Saturday, October 6, at Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, beginning at 3:30 p.m. On Sunday, October 7, the Royals will meet defending NCAA Division III champion Juniata College at 10:00 a.m. and the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 12:30 p.m. as part of round-robin competition in the Landmark Conference. Both of Sunday matches will also be played at Goucher College.
