Royals Win Final Tuneup Before Conference Play
CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. - Senior middle blocker Valerie Naranjo (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) had 14 kills and five total blocks to lead The University of Scranton to a 3-1 victory (30-27, 30-32, 30-22, 30-17) over Baptist Bible College Thursday evening.
The Royals, who also received a combined 48-dig effort from juniors Jacqueline Pisano (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and Meaghan Curtin (Hicksville, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), won their second straight match to improve to 10-3 overall. Junior setter Jenn McKeighan (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) finished with 35 assists, 12 digs and two assists and junior middle blocker Abby Barrett (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) contributed seven kills and 19 digs.
Scranton will return to action in the first of two round-robin competitions in the Landmark Conference this Saturday and Sunday, September 22-23, at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. The Royals will play defending NCAA Division III champion Juniata and Moravian on Saturday and Goucher and Catholic on Sunday.
