Pisano's Big Night Powers Royals To Win
SCRANTON, Pa - Junior outside hitter Jacqueline Pisano (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) posted her seventh ‘double-double' of the season with 17 kills and 25 digs to lift The University of Scranton to a 3-0 (30-23, 30-18, 30-26) victory over Widener University in non-conference action Tuesday evening at the Long Center.
The Royals, now 14-4, also received 11 kills and three blocks from junior left-side hitter Jaclyn Bromley (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop Carroll), nine kills from senior middle blocker Valerie Naranjo (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley), and seven kills and two service aces from junior middle blocker Abby Barrett (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area). Junior setter Jenn McKeighan (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) finished with 49 assists and 10 digs and junior defensive specialist Meaghan Curtin (Hicksville, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) had 22 digs.
Widener, which fell to 8-11, was led by senior middle hitter Kim Brady (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) with 13 kills and sophomore right-side hitter Danielle Wetling (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) added eight kills and four digs.
The Royals jumped out to early leads in all three games. Hanging on to a two-point lead in the third and deciding game, Bromley came up big with a block solo that led to a rally and ended any hopes for the Pioneers' to extend the match.
Scranton will take part in the Nazareth Invitational in Rochester, New York, this Friday and Saturday, September 28-29.
