Moravian Returning Basketball Postseason

TOWSON, Md. - Moravian clinched its seventh straight postseason
appearance and a spot in the first-ever Landmark Conference
Tournament with a 72-62 victory at Goucher College.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a pair of free throws by
sophomore forward Alyssa Bisci and a lay-up by sophomore forward
Kirsty Stearns in the first minute of the game, and Moravian never
trailed in the contest. The Greyhounds lead would hit double digits
for the first time with 4:40 remaining in the first half on a
three-pointer by sophomore guard Amanda Brown that gave Moravian a
28-18 lead.
The Greyhounds headed to the locker room with a 36-24 halftime lead
after shooting 15 of 27 from the field (55.6 percent), two of six
on three-pointers and a perfect four-for-four at the foul line.
Moravian had a 20-14 edge in rebounds during the first half, and
the Greyhounds had 11 turnovers in the first 20 minutes. The
Gophers were just nine for 29 from the field and six of eight at
the foul line in the first 20 minutes, and Goucher missed both of
its three-point attempts in the first half.
In the second half, Moravian's lead would remain in double figures
except for two times Goucher would get the lead to nine points.
Both times, the Greyhounds responded on the next possession to put
the lead back in double digits. Moravian's largest lead of the game
came at the 12:12 mark of the second half when sophomore guard
Jessica Foran hit a free throw to build a 17-point lead, 53-36.
The Greyhounds made 12 of 27 field goal attempts (44.4 percent),
two of three three-pointers and ten of 15 free throws in the second
half. Moravian also finished the game with a 37-36 edge in rebounds
while committing 17 turnovers. The Gophers made 16 of 36 field goal
attempts, one of six three-pointers and five of eight free throws
in the final 20 minutes.
Moravian had a balanced scoring attack in the game with five
players in double figures led by Bisci's team high 17 points. Bisci
also had seven rebounds and a pair of assists while Foran
contributed 14 points and two boards. Brown tossed in 12 points to
go with two assists while Stearns and sophomore guard Kate Harrison
each scored ten points. Stearns grabbed a team high 11 rebounds for
a double-double, and she had three blocked shots and two assists
while Harrison added three rebounds and two assists.
Sophomore forward Lauren Fornazor contributed seven points, three
rebounds and two steals for the Greyhounds while freshman guard
forward Emily Smith had four assists, two points, two blocked shots
and three steals. Senior guard LaToya Blake had six rebounds and
three assists for Moravian.
Amber Smith led Goucher with game highs of 20 points, 12 rebounds
and five steals while Shadae Swan had 19 points for the Gophers.
Latisha McCray added seven points and three boards while Leia
Roberts-Brown added six points, five assists and three rebounds.
