Mariner Hoops To Be Featured On Local News

KINGS POINT, N.Y. - Off to its best start in program history, the United States Merchant Marine Academy women's basketball team will be featured on News 12 Long Island tonight, Thursday Jan. 10.

Head Coach Mike Murray, senior captain Morgan Gartner and junior Kristen Hetsko were all interviewed for the feature which is scheduled to air at 5:50 p.m., 6:50 p.m. and 10:50 p.m.

The Mariners are 7-3 on the year, and opened the campaign with a four-game winning streak. Merchant Marine sports the best winning percentage among Landmark Conference women's basketball teams at this point in the season.

USMMA is first in the conference in scoring defense, and ranks second in scoring offense. Gartner currently leads the conference in rebounding, and is third among Landmark players in scoring.

The Mariners will hit the road for two conference games against Goucher and Catholic this weekend.
