Three Landmark Women Named To D3Hoops.com All-Region Teams
MADISON, N.J - Three members of Landmark Conference women's
basketball teams received postseason recognition by earning spots
on the D3hoops.com The Landmark had one first-team honoree, a
second-team choice and a third-team pick on the teams which cover
eight different regions.
The Catholic University of America sophomore Brianna Peterson was a
firs-team choice in the Atlantic Region, University Scranton
sophomore Megan Kopecki claimed second-team honors for the Mid
Atlantic Region and Juniata College senior Kelly Ashcraft was a
third-team pick in the Mid Atlantic Region. Each of the eight
regions included either two or three five-player teams.
In addition to her conference leading 21.8 ppg, Peterson finished
7th in the conference with 6.4 rpg and was named to the
All-Conference first team. Peterson now sits with 869 points
through two seasons with the Cardinals and was also an
All-Conference selection in her freshman season. She scored a
Landmark-record 37 points in a win over King's and also posted four
double-doubles on the season.
Kopecki earned a number of accolades this season as she was
selected the 2009 Landmark Conference Player of the Year and a
first-team selection. She led the 15th-ranked Lady Royals in
scoring (16.9), steals (2.9), free throw percentage (.747), and
minutes played (31.7). She was the Landmark Rookie of the Year and
a first-team All-Conference choice as a freshman as well.
Ashcraft closes her career with her second-straight All-Region nod
after claiming second-team honors as a junior. She was a first-team
All-Landmark pick in her junior and senior season, and helped the
Eagles earn 36 wins over those two years, the winningest two-year
stretch in program history. She averaged 13 points per game in her
senior year and was second in the Landmark in field-goal
percentage.
