Youngsters Carry Drew Lacrosse Past Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Drew women’s lacrosse got back on track
with an 18-10 victory over Moravian. The young Rangers did most of
the damage as first-year players scored 14 goals in leading Drew to
its first ever Landmark Conference win. Drew (6-5, 1-1) out shot
Moravian (6-4, 0-2) 51-23 in the game.
The Greyhounds led 2-1 after ten minutes of play before the Rangers
went on a six goal run between the 10th and 18th minute. Rebecca
Schild opened the run with an FPS goal before Lindsey Perno scored
twice to put Drew up 4-2. Three first-years scored in a row as Cara
Jeffries, Stacie Brown and Brook Connell tallied. Moravian
countered with a four goal run of its own with Georgia Castellano
scoring twice.
At 7-6 with just two minutes remaining in the first half, the
Rangers looked vulnerable to another loss, but Connell and Sloane
Coles each scored twice in the final 90 seconds of play to give
Drew a much nicer 11-6 edge.
Cara Jeffries opened the second half with a goal twenty second in.
The Rangers and Greyhounds traded goals for the next 12 minutes as
both sides scored three times. With just under 11 minutes left the
Rangers secured the win with a three goal run started by Sam
Silver. Stacie Brown scored her second off a Meghan Santaniello
assist and Coles netted her fourth with just fewer than two minutes
left. The Greyhounds added a final goal in the final minute.
The win highlights the contributions of the rookie class for Head
Coach Kim Christos. Of the Rangers 127 goals this season, 71 have
been scored by first-years. 17 of the 29 assists have been recorded
by the same. A rookie also stepped into goal for Drew today, as
Rachel Hanley made four saves over 47 minutes of play.
The Rangers host Scranton in a key Landmark tussle on Saturday.
