Scranton Lacrosse Rolls To Non-Conference Win

SCRANTON, Pa.—Sophomore attacker Kristen Marquino
(Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored three of her game-high
five goals in the opening 12 minutes of play as The University of
Scranton jumped out to a early lead en route to an 18-7 victory
over Misericordia University in non-conference action Thursday
evening at Fitzpatrick Field.
Freshman midfielder Kristen Pickell (Ambler, Pa./Wissanickon)
contributed three goals and senior Kaitlyn Mimnaugh (New City,
N.Y./Albertus Magnus), junior Madelyn Sminkey (Springfield,
Pa./Springfield), sophomore Heather Melone (Wall, N.J./Wall
Township), and freshman Caroline Pryor (Robbinsville, N.J./Notre
Dame) added two apiece as Scranton won its second straight game to
improve to 8-5. Misericordia, which fell behind 7-1 midway through
the first period and trailed 12-4 at intermission, was led by
freshman midfielder Nicole DeAngelis (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park
Memorial) with three goals and sophomore midfielder Shannon Tinkham
(Cortland, N.Y./Homer) had two.
The Royals dominated play throughout the evening by winning 19 of
27 draw controls and held a 40-19 advantage in shots. Sophomore
goalie Heather Heun (Cape May Courthouse, N.J./Middle Township)
finished with a game-high 11 saves for Misericordia, now 6-6, while
Scranton goalies Cassie Murphy (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) and
Kristina Goetz (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) played
30 minutes apiece and combined to stop four shots.
Scranton will host Catholic University in Landmark Conference
action this Saturday, April 19, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at
Fitzpatrick Field.
