Becky Davis Tabbed To Lead Scranton Women's Lacrosse Team

SCRANTON, Pa. - Toby Lovecchio, director of athletics at The University of Scranton, has announced the appointment of Becky Davis as head women's lacrosse coach/assistant athletics director.

Davis served as interim women's lacrosse coach this past season and guided the Royals to a 6-9 overall, including a 6-4 mark in their final season as a member of Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC). Beginning this fall, The University of Scranton will become a member of the Landmark Conference, whose membership includes the following institutions: The Catholic University of America (Washington, DC), Drew University (Madison, N.J.), Goucher College (Baltimore, Md.), Juniata College (Huntingdon, Pa.), Moravian College (Bethlehem, Pa.), Susquehanna University (Selinsgrove, Pa.) and the United States Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point, N.Y.).

"I am extremely excited to return as the head coach for our women's lacrosse program and looking forward to the additional responsibilities as assistant athletic director," says Davis. "It is an honor to represent such a respected University. This year we have experienced returning players and a talented group of newcomers for our first season in the competitive Landmark Conference."

A native of Aston, Pennsylvania, Davis joined the Royal coaching staff in 2004 as an assistant coach under then head coach Linda Drapeau. That season, Scranton won its second straight Middle Atlantic Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Division III championships for the second consecutive year to cap off a school-record 14-win campaign. In 2005, under then head coach Brenda Brewer, the Royals went 12-5, qualified for the MAC tournament and earned a berth in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) regional championships for the third time in the program's history.

"I am very pleased that Becky is now a full time member of our athletic department staff," says Lovecchio. "We are very fortunate that she is a part of our University community. Becky brings a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to both positions. She is an outstanding leader, very confident in her abilities as a head coach and educator, and values the mission of this University. I am very confident that Becky will continue to have a positive impact on the lives of our student-athletes, athletic staff and University community."

Upon graduation from Sun Valley High School, where she was a four-year letter-winner and three-year starter on the girls' lacrosse team, Davis enrolled at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She played two seasons of lacrosse and was the Dukes' third-leading scorer during the 1998 season. She transferred to West Chester University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and secondary education in May 2002. For two seasons (2000, 2001), Davis served as assistant coach of the girls' lacrosse program at Strath Haven High School and was the head girls' lacrosse coach at Chichester High School for one year, in 2002. She has also served as a volunteer coach for the Swarthmore Youth Lacrosse Program.

Becky and her husband, Jim, and son, Evan, reside in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania.
