Catholic Women's Lacrosse Will Host NCAA Opener
WASHINGTON – The Cardinals will host Christopher Newport in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament, CUA learned on Sunday evening. After capturing its fifth consecutive Landmark Conference championship, CUA will host an NCAA Tournament game for the fourth straight year.
CUA enters the tournament with a record of 14-5, which includes seven straight wins, including two last week in the Landmark Conference Tournament. The Cardinals have been on a tear the last month, having won 11 of their last 12, rolling through the Landmark regular season unblemished for the fourth time in five years.
Christopher Newport earned an automatic bid to the tournament after capturing the USA South Conference title for the seventh straight season. The Captains are currently 15-3 overall, with the three losses coming vs. nationally ranked foes Washington & Lee, Mary Washington and Salisbury.
This will mark the third time that the Cardinals and Captains meet in the NCAA Tournament. In 2008, CUA came away with an 18-7 win in Newport News, Va., while in 2010, CUA earned a 19-9 win in Washington.
Wednesday's game between CUA and CNU will get underway beginning at 3 p.m. from inside Cardinal Stadium.
The winner of Wednesday's game will take on the winner of the Redlands-Occidental first round matchup. That second round game will take place on the campus of Salisbury University on Saturday, May 12.
