Crusaders Get Back On Winning Track

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – An 11-1 halftime advantage eventually resulted in a 15-7 win for the Susquehanna women's lacrosse team over visiting Landmark Conference opponent Goucher on Saturday afternoon.

The team, which honored its three senior members prior to the start of the game, picked up its 12th win of the spring (12-1, 2-1) and now has a winning record in conference play.

Senior Ally Bauer (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and teammate Michelle McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) had three goals apiece with Emma Ehler (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and senior Erin Dyer (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) chipping in two. Bauer also added an assist for a four-goal effort. The team's third senior, defender Marra Landino (Brownsville, Vt./Kimball Union Academy), even got in on the scoring action with a goal.

Emily Stankaitis (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) played all but the final 11:56 of the game and had five saves with just five goals allowed. Katelyn Brower (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) played the final minutes of the game, allowing Goucher's final two scores.

SU doubled up the Gophers (4-10, 0-4) in shots (46-23) and had 37 ground balls to Goucher's seven. The Crusaders also committed only 13 turnovers while forcing 25 by Goucher.

The game opened on a 7-0 Susquehanna run that included back-to-back scores from McGinniss that made it 5-0 with 16:52 still to play in the half.

SU ended the half with four more unanswered goals, including one by defender Ainsley Rossitto (Rocky Hill, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) with 3:45 left, and went into halftime up 11-1.

Goucher came alive in the second half and out-scored Susquehanna 4-1 over the first 17 minutes of the period. The Crusaders let the Gophers get within six (13-7), but Dyer and Bauer closed out the game with back-to-back goals to clinch the victory.

SU plays its final home game of the regular season on April 25 with a 4 p.m. game against McDaniel.
