Eagles Pile Up 12 Goals In Non-Conference Match

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Seven different Juniata College players
scored, including two who logged their first collegiate goals, to
lead the Eagles to a 12-0 win over Mount Aloysius College, in
women's soccer action Thursday afternoon at Winton Hill Field in
Huntingdon, Pa.
Caitlin Bigelow (La Mesa, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) got
Juniata on the scoreboard just 25 seconds into the game, with what
proved to be the game-winner. Bigelow would score two more times in
the second half, on her way to recording her first collegiate hat
trick.
Sarah Ruggiero (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) scored on a penalty kick late
in the fourth minute of the game, and Laura Goodlander (Etters,
Pa./Red Land) expanded the Eagle lead to 3-0 with a goal in the
seventh minute.
"We had worked all week long on attacking the endline and cutting
the ball back, and that worked well for us today," said Juniata
head coach Scott McKenzie. "We are going to have chances like that
in the future, and today's performance should help us with our
remaining games."
Juniata (8-4-3, 1-2-2 Landmark) built its lead to 5-0 by the
halftime break, following a pair of goals by Erin Eddinger (Barto,
Pa./Boyertown).
The second half provided even more offense for the Eagles, who
tallied seven goals - including four in the first 15 minutes of the
frame by Bigelow (two goals), Goodlander, and Shannon Pierce
(Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown).
Lauren Brant (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) and Kaitlyn Fagan
(Everson, Pa./Geibel Catholic) closed out the Juniata scoring with
their first collegiate goals, in the 72nd and 90 minutes
respectively.
All three Juniata keepers saw action, with Lisa Russo (Haskell,
N.J./Lakeland) getting the start and getting credit for the win.
Lauren Auster-Gussman (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) and
Kristen Penska (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) saw action in the
second half; none of the three keepers recorded a save in the
Juniata goal.
Mount Aloysius keeper Jess Petrella made 10 saves in 90 minutes of
action.
Juniata outshot the Mounties 44-0, and had a 10-0 advantage in
corner kick opportunities.
The Eagles close out their regular season on Saturday, Oct. 27,
when they host Goucher College in a must-win Landmark Conference
match on Winton Hill Field in Huntingdon. Game time is 1:00 p.m. A
Juniata win, coupled with a Drew University loss in its game
against Moravian, would allow the Eagles to secure a berth in the
inaugural Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Tournament.
