Juniata Holds Off Drew For Conference Win

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Juniata College women's soccer team
received goals from three different players on its way to a 3-2 win
over Drew University, in the first game of a Landmark Conference
soccer doubleheader on Saturday afternoon on Winton Hill Field in
Huntingdon.
Elizabeth Van Blarcom (Columbia Cross Roads, Pa./Troy) and Kelly
Logue (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) each scored first half goals
for the Eagles, who went into the lockerroom with a 2-0 lead at the
halfway mark. Van Blarcom's unassisted goal came just 1:09 into the
game, while Logue's goal off an assist from Lauren Brant
(Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) was scored with 12:36 remaining in
the half.
The Drew Rangers cut the margin to one goal following a score by
Alyssa Goodman in the 59th minute, but Juniata responded just over
a minute later with a goal by Laura Goodlander (Etters, Pa./Red
Land) off a feed from Katie Young (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon),
making the score 3-1 in favor of the Eagles.
Drew's Keely Phelps again cut the lead to one goal, scoring in the
66th minute with an assist going to Goodman. That was as close as
the Rangers would get, however, as the Eagle defense kept Drew off
the scoreboard for the remaining 14 minutes of play.
The Eagle defense held Drew to just two shots on goal, with goalie
Lisa Russo (Haskell, N.J./Lakeland) getting credit for one save in
90:00 minutes in goal. Drew's Ann Mularz recorded five saves in her
90 minutes in the Ranger goal. Juniata outshot the Rangers 12-5,
while Drew held a 5-3 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
