TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the first six honorees will be announced over the next two weeks.
The University of Scranton's Kelsy McAnelly has been named the Women's Soccer Senior Scholar Athlete. She is a three-time All-Landmark selection having earned First Team honors the past two seasons. A three-year starter, McAnelly finished with a 0.71 goals against average and .685 winning percentage (37-14-11).
The Royals were three-time Landmark Champions during McAnelly's career and made four NCAA tournament appearances. This past season the team went 15-3-3 thanks in part to McAnelly's 53 saves and 0.82 goals against average. She is ranked in the top 10 in five goalkeeping categories in Scranton women's soccer history.
Off the field, McAnelly has amassed a 3.66 cumulative grade point average while majoring in political science and history. She is a three-time Landmark Honor Roll recipient and has been honored by the Dean's List five times. McAnelly is a member of three honor societies including the Alpha Lambda Delta National Freshman Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta History National Honor Society and the Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science National Honor Society. She also competes as a member of the Scranton women's swimming & diving team.
Originally from West Chester, Pa., McAnelly is a member of the Scranton Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She spent time volunteering with Lackawanna County Pro Bono and interned with Pennsylvania state representative Kevin Haggerty last summer.
