Scranton Seeks Seventh Landmark Title

Scranton Seeks Seventh Landmark Title

TOWSON, Md. – After claiming its second straight Landmark title last season, The University of Scranton was selected as the favorite in the Landmark preseason coaches' poll, which is voted on by the league's head coaches.

Scranton and 10th-year head coach Colleen Pivirotto collected seven first-place votes and 70 total points to headline this year's poll. The Royals return plenty of talent, including four all-conference performers as the Royals seek their seventh conference crown.

Last year's runner-up Susquehanna University, led by sixth-year head coach Nick Hoover, was picked to finish second in the 2018 poll with 46 points and the last remaining first-place vote. The River Hawks graduated 11 seniors from the 2017 team that made its first appearance in the NCAA tournament, but return a solid core of upperclassmen.

Catholic University earned 44 points to finish third in the poll. 14th-year head coach JP Sousa returns junior Elizabeth Johnson, who was the team's leading scorer in 2017.

Elizabethtown College picked up 36 points to finish fourth in the poll. Under the direction of second-year head coach Amy Hough, the Blue Jays return the conference's Offensive Player of the Year and all-region forward Lydia Lawson and should be able to build off last year's success and compete for a second straight playoff spot in the Landmark Conference.

Moravian College finished fifth with 34 points, followed by Drew University in sixth with 22 points. Juniata College earned 11 points for seventh and Goucher College rounded out the poll in eighth with nine points.

The 2018 starts on Friday, August 31 with all eight teams in action.
