Strong Singles Lead Moravian To Tennis Title

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Greyhounds closed out the 2008 season by
winning the inaugural Landmark Conference Championship with a 6-3
victory over The University of Scranton at Hoffman Courts.
Moravian trailed 2-1 after doubles action with just a victory by
the team of junior MaryKate Kelly and freshman Kerry McKinley at
third doubles.
Moravian immediately tied the match with a straight sets singles
win by senior Lindsey Hopper at first singles. The Greyhounds then
won the next three singles matches to finish to clinch the team's
second straight and ninth conference title in the last 14 years.
Kelly earned a straight sets win at second singles while senior
Jennel Yelito won at fourth singles and senior Rebecca Angstadt won
at sixth singles. Senior Brittany Popaca would pick up a three-set
win at third singles to give the Greyhounds six points.
The victory was Popaca's 62nd singles win of her career, tying her
for second in school history. McKinley would drop a three-set match
at fifth singles to close out the match.
