Royals Secure Postseason Berth With Tight Win

TOWSON, Md. — Senior Danielle Red (Mechanicsburg,
Pa./Cumberland Valley) and freshman Chelsea Paskman (Chalfont,
Pa./Central Bucks South) won two matches apiece as The University
of Scranton clinched a Landmark Conference tournament berth with a
5-4 victory over Goucher College Saturday.
Red teamed with fellow senior Sarah Costello (Branchville,
N.J./High Point Regional) to defeat Joan Pulupa and Carly Heinz,
8-6, and Paskman and sophomore Caroline Curtin (Shirley,
N.Y./William Floyd) downed Dana Clark and Kim McPhail, 8-3, as
Scranton took a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
Red improved her team-leading record in singles to 7-3 with a 4-6,
6-2, 6-1 victory over Heinz at two and Paskman downed Stella Day,
6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-4, at six to move to 4-2 on the year. The
Royals’ other point in singles was scored by sophomore Deidre
Wylie (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), who improved to 4-7 with a
6-0, 6-0 victory over Pulupa at one.
Scranton has now qualified for a post-season tournament in each of
the last three years. The Royals will play their final home match
of the season this Monday, April 14, against the Warriors of East
Stroudsburg University beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Poly Hi Tennis
Courts.
