Scranton Women Upend Susquehanna
SCRANTON, Pa. - Behind two wins apiece from senior Caroline
Curtin (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd), junior Deirdre Wylie
(Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), and sophomores Danielle Wylie
(Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and Kelly Costello (Branchville,
N.J./High Point Regional), The University of Scranton women’s
tennis team won its second straight match with an 8-1 victory over
Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action Sunday
afternoon at Poly Hi.
Curtin improved to 3-1 in singles by defeating Christine Crigler,
6-0, 6-3, and teamed with freshman Caitlin Ehly (Philadelphia,
Pa./Saint Basil Academy) to turn back Allison Killeen and Charlotte
Jordan, 8-3. Deirdre Wyle evened her record in singles to 5-5 with
a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Julia Lerner, after teaming with her
younger sister to down Lerner and Jessi Hass, 8-6, in doubles.
Danielle improved to 4-5 with a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) win over
Shelby Werronen at two.
Costello teamed with first-year player Moira McGinn (North Wales,
Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) to defeat Werronen and Crigler, 9-8
(10-5), in doubles, then came back to record her second win of the
year in singles with a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) victory over Haas at
four. Scranton’s final win in singles was recorded by junior
Beth Lappin (Westminster, Md./Westminster), who defeated Killeen,
6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) at six.
Celsy Ehrgood scored the Crusaders lone point with a 6-4, 6-0
victory over McGinn at the number five singles.
Scranton is now 3-7 overall and 2-1 in the Landmark Conference.
