Twenty-Fifth Win Sends Catholic To Landmark Semifinals

WASHINGTON – CUA earned its 25th win of the season on Wednesday evening, downing Goucher 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the Landmark Conference Tournament. The Cardinals won by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-5 to advance to the semifinals for the third straight season.

CUA was led by Lucia Irazabal with 29 assists and Isabel Eberstadt with 19 digs. Claudia Jean added 16 digs and a team-high nine kills, while Kelly Crimmins also tied for the team lead with nine kills.

Katie Chefalas added eight kills and five digs for the Cardinals, while Molly Owens finished with five kills and four digs.

Goucher received a match-high 28 digs from Ashley Fan and seven kills from Megan Chalk. Kristen Courage added 14 digs, while Tori Rain handed out 17 assists.

On Saturday CUA will take on Susquehanna in the conference semifinals, which will take place on the campus of Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa. Start time is set for 1:30 p.m. The winner of that match will advance to the conference final that same day at 7.

CUA fell to Susquehanna earlier this season 3-1 during the second Landmark Conference round robin weekend.
