Mariners Run To Cross Country Victory

HOBOKEN, N.J. - The United States Merchant Marine Academy women's cross country team won the Stevens Tech Invitational at Liberty State Park on Friday afternoon. The Mariners finished with eight points. Senior captain Callie Beeler won the individual title in 15:31 and beat out the second place finisher by four seconds. Stevens Tech was USMMA's closest competitor and finished with 17 points. The Mariners have now won two of the three scoring meets they have competed in this fall.

Mariner runners took three of the top four spots and six of the top nine en route to the invitational title. Melissa Mejias continued her streak of finishing second on the team behind Beeler and clocked in at 16:48 and third overall. Brittany Rossi was fourth overall and third on the team in 17:16 and Lindsay Watkins was right behind her with a time of 17:25. Cristina Fernandez-O'Toole (eighth, 17:53) and Christine Jaszlics (ninth, 17:53) also placed in the top ten.

USMMA heads to the Drew Invitational next Sunday. The race begins at 10 a.m.
