Hurrell is the second straight Rookie of the Year for the River Hawks. Last year, teammate Brandon Zimmerman was honored. He is also the seventh SU student-athlete to be named.
The rookie had a standout first-ever collegiate championship, earning two top-10 finishes. Hurrell earned his first medal in the 60-meter dash, claiming bronze after running a 7.16. He then placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.55 meters.
