TOWSON, Md. – Three Landmark soccer student-athletes were named to the 2017 United Soccer Coaches Division III Scholar All-Region Teams.
On the men’s side, Goucher senior Drew Phillips earned All-South Region First Team honors. On the women’s side, Scranton junior Erica Licari was named to the First Team and classmate Jamie Hreniuk earned Second Team honors.
The United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region teams honor student-athletes for their work in the classroom and on the pitch. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior with a minimum grade-point average of 3.3, start at least 50 percent of his or her team’s games and be “an elite player as supported by playing honors.”
Phillips, who was named to the All-Landmark Conference Second Team last month, has accumulated a 3.64 grade point average as a Political Science and Economics major at Goucher. He was one of just 24 selected to the Scholar All-South Region Team and one of just 12 honorees on the First Team. Phillips was also the lone representative of the Landmark Conference on any of the Scholar All-Region Teams.
On the pitch in 2017, Phillips scored two goals and added two assists to finish off an accomplished career for the Gophers. With his selection to the All-Landmark Conference team, Phillips became the second Goucher men's soccer player since the Gophers joined the Landmark Conference at its advent in 2007 to be named to the All-Landmark team twice, as Phillips nabbed the honor (as a defender) after the 2016 season.
In all, Phillips started 63 of the 67 matches he played in at Goucher. Off the field, Phillips was named to the Landmark Conference's Academic Honor Roll three straight seasons, as well.
Licari has a double major in biology and philosophy, and has a cumulative GPA of 3.95, the highest on the first team. On the field, she was named first-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region by the United Soccer Coaches, the first player in the program to earn first-team honors since 2011.
Licari finished the year with six goals and four assists for 16 points, and was a dominant force throughout the season. She scored game-winning goals in victories over Moravian (1-0, Sept. 23), at Drew (4-0, Oct. 11) and in a Landmark Conference semifinal against Elizabethtown (3-0, Nov. 1).
A first-team all-Landmark Conference selection this season, Licari has 15 goals and 15 assists for 45 points in her career. She was a second-team all-Landmark Conference choice as a sophomore.
Hreniuk is an exercise science major with a 3.70 GPA. She was a second-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region choice at forward earlier this fall, becoming the 15th player in program history to earn all-region honors in multiple seasons. She led the Royals this season with 12 goals and 25 total points, including game-winning goals against Marywood (6-2, Sept. 13) and Haverford (3-0, Oct. 18).
A first-team all-Landmark Conference selection in each of the past two seasons and Co-Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore, Hreniuk has 25 goals and four assists for 54 career points. She is the first Royal to score at least 10 goals in back-to-back seasons since Sara Suchoski reached double digits three straight seasons from 2001 to 2003.
All threee are now eligible for Scholar All-American honors from the United Soccer Coaches.
