SCRANTON, Pa. - University of Scranton director of athletics Dave Martin announced on Friday that Randy Shemanski has been named Associate Director of Athletics. Shemanski will assume the new role immediately.
Shemanski joined The University of Scranton athletic department in September 2011 as assistant director of sports information and has been the athletics communications manager for the past three-plus years since being promoted to the position in June 2015.
In his new role, Shemanski will oversee the areas of athletic training, sports information, compliance, facilities, and game management while assisting Martin in the day-to-day aspects of the athletics department.
"Randy's work in our sports information office over the past seven-plus years has been outstanding," Martin said. "I'm excited for him to take on this new role within our athletics department. He has been a loyal and well-respected member of the department and he possesses an excellent skill set that will help our coaches and staff provide a championship experience for our student-athletes."
During his time in Scranton's sports information office, Shemanski oversaw all aspects of the athletic department's communication and publicity efforts for the University 23 intercollegiate sports, writing game and feature stories, providing official statistical coverage, and managing the athletics website and social media accounts. He oversaw the redesign of the Royals' website, which was unveiled in August 2016, and developed the department's social media programs, including its Instagram account (@royalathletics), which is among the most popular in NCAA Division III athletics.
Shemanski, who served as a volunteer and part-time assistant coach for the Royals' baseball team since 2005, was also responsible for nominating and promoting student-athletes, coaches, and teams for conference, regional, and national awards as well as coordinating special events, including the annual Wall of Fame and Senior Student-Athlete Luncheon ceremonies.
Before coming to the University, Shemanski worked extensively in the electronic and print media. He was the managing editor of the Community News Group for Times-Shamrock publications and editor of Electric City/Diamond City from January 2008 to August 2011. Prior to those roles, he was copy editor in the sports department at The Scranton Times and also served as the assistant sports editor of The Times-Tribune from February 2006 to December 2007.
Shemanski began his career in media as a writer in the sports department for The Scranton Times and The Times-Tribune, covering high school, collegiate, and professional sports, including the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, the Philadelphia Phillies' Triple-A affiliate, in 2000 and 2001.
Shemanski graduated from Farleigh Dickinson University-Madison (now Farleigh Dickinson University-Florham) in 1999 with a bachelor of arts degree in English with a concentration in communications. He completed his master of business administration from The University of Scranton in August 2017.
