SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susan Lantz, vice president of student life, announced Monday morning Susquehanna University’s interim administrative plans for the position of Director of Athletics for the Fall 2019 semester after Pamela Samuelson, Susquehanna’s AD for the last 16 years, stepped down at the end of June.
Crystal Gibson and Jim Findlay have both been promoted to help lead the River Hawk athletics department for the remainder of the 2019 calendar year. Gibson will serve as the Interim Director of Athletics while Findlay will step into the role of Interim Associate Director of Athletics after being promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics on May 31.
“I have enjoyed working closely with Jim and Crystal as we review organizational responsibilities throughout the athletic department. I am impressed with their commitment, dedication, and collaborative spirit. The River Hawks have a strong leadership team leading them toward another successful fall season,” Lantz said.
Susquehanna will begin a national search immediately, using a professional consulting firm to help with the search process. Lantz and Frank Marcinek, the SU head men’s basketball coach, will co-chair the search.
Gibson joined the SU athletics staff two years ago as the Associate Director of Athletics. She worked closely with Samuelson to keep the River Hawk athletic department running efficiently and at a high-level. The Randallstown, Md., native will continue to serve the department as the Senior Woman Administrator and Compliance Coordinator.
Findlay has been a fixture at Susquehanna for the last 21 years as the manager of the men’s soccer team, leading the program to one NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament berth and three Landmark Conference championship titles.
