Volleyball All-Conference Teams Announced
TOWSON, Md. – Catholic senior Claudia Jean has been named Landmark Conference Volleyball Player of the Year and Moravian senior Jesse Krasley the Specialist of the Year. Krasley's teammate Victoria Bobyak was chosen as Rookie of the Year.
This marks the first time in Landmark history a Catholic player has won the Player of the Year award. It is also the first time a non-Juniata player has won the Specialist of the Year honor.
An outside hitter, Jean dominated this season leading Catholic with more than three kills per set through the regular season. Her conference numbers were even better at 4.14 kills per set and .209 hitting percentage. Jean also earned First Team All-Conference honors for the third straight season.
Krasley was a force to be reckoned with on the Moravian defense as libero. She finished the regular season with 5.66 digs per set while averaging 6.00 digs per set through the six conference matches. During her career, Krasley has claimed every dig record in Moravian school history including match, season and career. She was also recognized with First Team honors for the first time in her career after earning Second Team recognition as a sophomore and junior.
Bobyak started the season as a reserve, but quickly moved into the starting lineup. The freshman middle averaged nearly two kills per set through the regular season and ranked second on the team in hitting percentage at.226. She also boasted 59 blocks in 33 regular season matches and was voted a Second Team All-Conference selection.
The eight First Team All-Conference honorees represent the top four teams in the Landmark this year. Juniata sophomore Amelia Kepler helped lead the Eagles to their sixth straight Landmark title with more than two kills per set and a .229 hitting percentage. She came through with big kills against top competition to earn the first All-Conference of her career. Susquehanna senior Emily Carson wraps up her career as a four-time All-Conference selection. Named to the Second Team twice, she earns her second straight First Team honors after finishing the regular season with 3.12 kills per set. In conference play, Carson finished with 3.57 kills per set, .321 hitting percentage and 1.30 blocks per set.
Susquehanna senior Kaylee Monga is another repeat selection, earning honors for the third time in her career, second time as a First Team selection. The middle hitter racked up 1.50 kills per set in Landmark action and .472 hitting percentage. Catholic senior Kelly Crimmins has earned First Team honors in back-to-back seasons with 1.70 kills per set and .325 hitting percentage in the regular season. Juniata junior Courtney Lydick has been recognized by the conference for the first time in her career after finishing the regular season with more than two kills per set and .324 hitting percentage.
Setter Mariana Cruz is in her first season as a Cardinal and helped boost Catholic into their first Landmark Championship match. The sophomore averaged more than eight assists per set during the regular season and improved to 9.57 assists per set in conference play while also contributing on defense with 3.57 digs per set.
In his 20th season at the helm of the Cardinals, Head Coach Nagy Abdelrazek has been voted Landmark Conference Coach of the Year for the second time. The award marks the sixth time he has been named conference Coach of the Year after being recognized by the Capital Athletic Conference four times earlier in his career. This season the Cardinals finished 27-10 overall and 5-1 in the Landmark. After receiving a first round bye in the conference tournament, Catholic defeated Moravian 3-2 to advance to their first championship match in the Landmark.
Juniata led all teams with five members on both the First and Second All-Conference teams. Catholic and Moravian placed four players each while Susquehanna had two players and Scranton one to receive All-Conference recognition.
