Emily Farrell Selected as Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has chosen six athletes as Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes for their respective fall sports. A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of the fall sports sponsored by the conference.
The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in athletics and academics. The conference office will announce the six honorees over a two week period.
The University of Scranton's Emily Farrell has been named the Women's Soccer Senior Scholar Athlete. Farrell is a four-year starting defender for the Royals while earning First Team All-Landmark honors in 2010. She has helped Scranton to three consecutive Landmark Championships while adding four goals from the back line including the game-winner in the title game this season. Farrell was a member of the Royals' defensive unit that did not allow a goal to a conference opponent this fall.
Originally from Telford, Pa., Farrell has a 3.97 cumulative grade point average while majoring in early and primary teacher education. She is a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and most recently was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Third Team.
Last month Farrell was named to the Landmark All-Academic team and earned Landmark Honor Roll recognition for the third time in her career. She has also made the Scranton Dean's List every semester. Farrell is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Council for Exceptional Children and the Student Education Club of The University of Scranton (SECUS). Farrell has also spent time volunteering with a number of local organizations including the Arc and the Safe Trick or Treat Program.
