TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has chosen six athletes as Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes for their respective fall sports. A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of the fall sports sponsored by the conference.

The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in athletics and academics. The conference office will announce the six honorees over the next two weeks.

Susquehanna University’s Brendan Kane has been named the Men’s Cross Country Senior Scholar Athlete. Kane wrapped up his cross country career this fall with two team Landmark Conference Championships (2009, 2010) and two runner-up finishes (2011, 2012).

During his four years at Susquehanna, Kane has finished in the top half of the conference at the Landmark Championships every year. As a freshman, he finished 31st at the meet with a time of 29:36. Four years later, Kane placed 27th this fall in a time of 28:25, more than a minute faster. He boasts a personal best 27:49 in the 8-kilometer race.

In addition to his participation with the cross country team, Kane also competes with the indoor and outdoor track & field teams and serves as the women’s track & field team manager. He is a member of the Entrepreneurship Club and National Honors Society of the Social Sciences and has volunteered with the cross country team’s “St. Jude’s Up ‘Til Dawn” fundraiser.

Originally from East Longmeadow, Mass., Kane is a business administration major with an entrepreneurship emphasis with future plans to open his own running store and coach at the high school level. He has earned a 3.33 cumulative grade point average and been recognized on the Landmark Honor Roll all three years he has been eligible.
