Hadley Couraud Named Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has chosen six athletes as Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes for their respective fall sports. A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of the fall sports sponsored by the conference.

The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in athletics and academics. The conference office will announce the six honorees over the next two weeks.

Goucher College’s Hadley Couraud has been named the Women’s Cross Country Senior Scholar Athlete. Couraud is a three-time All-Landmark honoree. As a freshman, Couraud placed 11th at the Landmark Championships before going on to finish the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional race in 23:31.2, the 10th fastest 6-kilometer time in Goucher history. She followed up with a 13th place finish at the conference championships in 2010 and a 12th place finish in 2011 before battling injuries to finish 56th last month.

A two-time team captain, Couraud helped the team to a runner-up finish at the Landmark Championships last season. When not competing for the cross country team, Couraud has also excelled in the classroom. She boasts a 3.77 cumulative grade point average while majoring in biology with a minor in peace studies.

Originally from East Lansing, Mich., Couraud has racked up numerous accolades during her time at Goucher. She is a three-time selection to the Landmark Honor Roll while earning Dean’s List recognition every semester. She is a recipient of the Marquez Prize for work on environmental issues at Goucher and the Renie Amoss Memorial Prize. She has served as president of Earthworks, Goucher’s environmental club, and was a representative on the Goucher Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee. She is currently serving on the Goucher Leadership Council.
