Jill Woerner Selected as Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has chosen six athletes as Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes for their respective winter sports. A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of the winter sports sponsored by the conference.
The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in athletics and academics. The conference office will announce the six honorees over the next two weeks.
Catholic University's Jill Woerner has been named the Women's Basketball Senior Scholar Athlete. Woerner recently wrapped up a stellar career for the Cardinals with All-American honors. She is a three-time First Team All-Landmark selection after earning Landmark Rookie of the Year honors as a freshman. This year Woerner was named the Landmark Player of the Year as well as the ECAC Player of the Year after leading Catholic to its second consecutive Landmark Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance.
Woerner racked up 1,544 points for the Cardinals, second in school history and second in Landmark Conference history. She served as team captain this year, helping the team to a school record 27 wins.
Originally from Providence, R.I., Woerner is a biomedical engineering major. She boasts a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and has been recognized on the Landmark Honor Roll all three years she has been eligible. She is a two-time CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District honoree and this year earned Academic All-America honors. A member of the Catholic University honors program and Phi Eta Sigma National Honors Society, Woerner has also been recognized by the Engineering Dean's List four times.
