Chris Kearney Chosen as Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has chosen six athletes as Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes for their respective winter sports. A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of the winter sports sponsored by the conference.
The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in athletics and academics. The conference office will announce the six honorees over the next two weeks.
Catholic University's Chris Kearney has been named the Men's Basketball Senior Scholar Athlete. Kearney adds another accolade to his long list of postseason awards after a tremendous senior year. He led the Cardinals in scoring and rebounding while becoming the first player in Landmark Conference history to earn Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. Kearney was named an All-American selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), D3Hoops.com and DIII News. The NABC and D3Hoops.com also announced him as Mid-Atlantic Player of the Year and he tacked on multiple All-Region honors.
Kearney led the Cardinals to a 25-4 overall record and the team's first Landmark Championship. Catholic advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and Kearney finished his career ranked in the top 40 in NCAA Division III for blocked shots per game in three of his four seasons.
Originally from Centreville, Va., Kearney is a business management major. He boasts a 3.51 cumulative grade point average and has been recognized on the Landmark Honor Roll all three years he has been eligible.
