Landmark Announces Outdoor Track & Field Awards
TOWSON, Md. – At the conclusion of the Landmark Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday, the coaches voted to select the Track and Field Athletes of the Year along with the Rookies of the Year and Coaching Staffs of the Year. Moravian's Donald Noble was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Year and Susquehanna's Ken Schetroma was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Year. On the women's side, Moravian's Brielle Sutter was named Track Athlete of the Year and teammate Micah Leonard was selected as Field Athlete of the Year.
Moravian's Albert Myers was selected as the Men's Rookie of the Year and the Greyhounds' coaching staff earned top honors. Susquehanna's Ashley West was picked as the Women's Rookie of the Year while the Coaching Staff of the Year honors went to Catholic.
Noble received his second Track Athlete of the Year award for outdoor and fourth overall. The senior took home top honors in the 1500 meters, 5000 meters and 10000 meters on the way to helping the Greyhounds to their sixth straight Landmark championship. Noble turned in ECAC qualifying times in all three races.
Schetroma won his third straight Field Athlete of the Year award on Sunday. A senior for the Crusaders, Schetroma won the shot put for the fourth consecutive year and finished first in the hammer throw for the third year in a row. He also added a sixth place finish in the discus.
Myers won three events this weekend and added a third place finish in a fourth event to earn Rookie of the Year recognition. He finished first in the 100 meters and 200 meters before teaming up with teammates Travis King, Justin Taylor and Travis Dorsa to win the 4x100 meter relay in an ECAC qualifying time. Myers also placed third in the long jump.
Sutter stayed busy all weekend as she competed in six events and finished first or second in all of them. The sophomore sprinter and jumper won the 400 meters for the second year in a row. She also finished second in the 100 meters, 200 meters and long jump. Sutter ran the leadoff leg of the winning 4x100 meter relay team and the second place 4x400 meter relay team. She ran ECAC qualifying times in the 200, 400 and both relays.
Leonard dominated the field events with championships in the long jump and triple jump while adding a second place finish in the high jump. This marks the first time she has been recognized as the Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, but the senior boasts three straight Indoor Field Athlete of the Year honors from 2011-13. Both victories were ECAC qualifying performances and moved her up on the national Division III list used to qualify student-athletes for the NCAA Championships.
West completed the trifecta on Sunday, becoming the first in Landmark Conference history to win Rookie of the Year honors in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. She won the 800 meters in 2:16.57 to break her own conference record and set a new meet record. West also finished second in the 1500 meters and combined with Eryn Spangler, Laura Alleva and Brooke Linders to win the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 4:02.29.
Baumann collected his fourth Coaching Staff of the Year award this year and first men's outdoor award. The Greyhounds won their sixth consecutive championship and second in as many years under the direction of Baumann.
Joe Fisher and his staff were honored with their first Outdoor Track Coaching Staff of the Year award after Fisher earned women's cross country recognition this fall. The Cardinals were in second place after the first day of competition and finished third, moving up a spot from last year.
First Team All-Landmark honors are awarded to everyone who finishes first at the Landmark Championships while second place finishers earn Second Team All-Landmark recognition.
The Moravian men had six men win 11 of the 18 individual events. Three student-athletes from Susquehanna along with two from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and one from Juniata rounded out the other individual event winners. The Moravian 4x100 meter relay team and the USMMA 4x400 meter relay team took home top honors in the relays.
The women had one student-athlete from five of the six institutions honored with First Team All-Conference recognition. The Moravian women won eight individual events and the 4x100 meter relay. The Susquehanna women won the 4x400 meter relay.
