Landmark Announces Baseball All-Conference Teams
TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference baseball coaches voted and named USMMA junior Warren Hartmann the Landmark Conference Player of the Year and Scranton senior Corey Gorman the Pitcher of the Year. Moravian's Charles Savite was chosen as the Rookie of the Year.
At the end of the regular season, second baseman Warren Hartmann led the Landmark in batting average, stolen bases, runs, doubles and slugging percentage. He hit .454 overall and .429 in conference play. Hartmann turned 17 double plays and did not make an error during conference play. The 2011 Landmark Rookie of the Year, Hartmann helped lead the Mariners to the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.
Gorman was considered Scranton's top pitcher all season. He made nine starts on the mound and earned a 3-3 record with 76 strikeouts. Gorman struck out 10 or more batters in three of his six conference starts and averaged 8.7 strikeouts in Landmark games.
Twelve players earned First Team All-Landmark honors including Hartmann and Gorman. Scranton catcher Michael Amaturo led the team hitting .418 despite splitting time behind the plate to earn First Team honors. Teammate Michael Gaeta was one of three outfielders selected to the First Team. Gaeta hit .344 in conference play with 13 RBI after earning Second Team recognition a year ago. Drew's Michael Bodden, also a Second Team honoree in 2012 has earned First Team honors this year. The senior outfielder hit .327 overall and .360 in conference play for the Rangers. Rounding out the outfielders is Moravian's Matt Hanson. He hit .372 during the regular season and drove in 17 runs with 12 doubles and five triples.
Catholic third baseman Marc Hanna is a First Team selection for the second consecutive year. He hit .345 in conference games this season and boasts a .914 fielding percentage in all regular season games. The Cardinals' first baseman, Chris McCloud was also recognized with First Team honors after hitting .305 in Landmark games. Catholic's ace on the mound, Robin Mowatt, collected First Team recognition with a 4-1 record in the Landmark in six starts while carrying a 3.03 conference earned run average.
Merchant Marine's Danny Collins was voted the top shortstop in the league. He led the conference in RBI in Landmark games with 19 and finished the regular season hitting .403. Juniata designated hitter Joe Sforza was also selected to the First Team. He hit .362 in conference games and drove in 25 runs for the season. Drew relief pitcher Pat Rock earns First Team honors for the second year in a row. He earned a 4-1 record in relief with three saves, two of them in Landmark competition. Rock carries a 1.77 earned run average and struck out 18 in 35.2 innings of work.
Moravian first baseman Charles Savite hit .341 this season with a .308 Landmark average to get the nod as Rookie of the Year. He drove in 23 runs and scored 28 of his own to boost the Moravian offense.
USMMA head coach Michael Notebaert and his staff were selected as the Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year. The Mariners finished in a tie for first at the top of the standings and earned the No. 2 seed for the second consecutive year. USMMA will continue its season in the ECAC tournament today.
