Landmark Announces Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Teams
TOWSON, Md. – Drew sophomore Nikki Kleiman is the Landmark Conference women's lacrosse coaches' pick as Player of the Year. Susquehanna's Annie McElaney was chosen as the Rookie of the Year.
Kleiman led the Landmark Conference in goals and points this season. She scored 83 goals and added 22 assists for 105 points during the regular season. Kleiman is ranked fifth in ground balls and leads all attackers with 11 caused turnovers.
Joining Kleiman on the All-Landmark First Team are attackers Emma Ehler and Lindsay Brophy. Ehler scored 69 goals with 13 assists on the way to leading Susquehanna to a No. 1 seed in the Landmark tournament and the eventual championship. Brophy, from Catholic University, led the conference with 20 goals in Landmark games. She finished with 52 goals in 16 regular season games.
Five midfielders earned First Team honors and all five Landmark institutions are represented in the picks. Susquehanna's Michelle McGinniss racked up 44 goals and seven assists while leading the league in draw controls with 80 during the regular season. Caroline DiBartolomeo of Catholic was crucial to the Cardinals' transition defense and scored 34 goals. Emily Goss led Scranton in scoring this season with 50 goals, 17 of them in conference play. Drew's Krysta Cento was the compliment to Kleiman as she led the Landmark in assists with 43. She broke the school record for assists in a game with eight. Hannah Khin was a playmaker for Goucher all season. She finished with 65 goals and ranks fourth in the Landmark in goals per game this season.
Susquehanna teammates Ainsley Rossitto and Emma Jones were named to the First Team defense. Rossitto is a senior for the Crusaders and used her speed to help her team hold opponents to less than nine goals per game. At the end of the regular season, Jones led the Landmark in caused turnovers per game, ground balls and assists per game in conference games. Catholic's Caroline Scalamandre was a strong defender for the Cardinals, particularly off the draw as she picked up 45 draw controls during the regular season. Scranton's Shannon Howe is a two-time First Team selection and grabbed 18 draws with 11 caused turnovers in 14 games.
Emily Stankaitis was the conference's unanimous decision as the First Team goalkeeper. She is a three-time First Team honoree and was the Landmark Rookie of the Year in 2010. Stankaitis helped lead Susquehanna to a 17-0 record thus far and boasts a 5.50 goals against average and 61.8 save percentage in conference games this season.
McElaney made an immediate impact for the Crusaders during her rookie campaign. The freshman attacker ranked third on the team in scoring with 29 goals and four assists through the regular season. She is the only Susquehanna freshman to start every game this year.
The coaches were split evenly when voting for Coaching Staff of the Year. Susquehanna head coach Laura Moan and her staff along with Scranton head coach Cindy Wilson and her staff are named Co-Coaching Staff of the Year for the conference.
The award marks the third time Moan has been recognized by the Landmark in her five seasons at the helm of the Crusaders. She has led the team to an undefeated season and its first No. 1 seed in the Landmark Championship. The team has been nationally ranked since March 5.
Ironically enough, Moan shares the award with her former player. A 2009 Susquehanna graduate, Wilson is in her first year at Scranton and led the Royals to a 9-6 record and a No. 3 seed in the Landmark tournament this season.
