Catholic Softball Knocks Off Susquehanna
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - No. 3 Catholic finished the first day of the Landmark Softball TOurnament with two wins against the top two seeds in the tournament. In game three, Catholic knocked off No. 1 Susquehanna 3-0.
The Cardinals scored a run in the first, third and seventh innings to slowly build their lead. Christy Sanchez had a RBI single through the left side in the first and Taylor Stockinger scored an unearned run in the third for the 2-0 lead.
Susquehanna had runners on first and second in the second and sixth, but left them stranded. Catholic added an insurance run in the seventh to hold the 3-0 advantage. The Crusaders looked to put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh sparked by a single from Larissa Luu. Kathryn Gilbert drew the walk and both runners advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch, but the Cardinals clinched the win with a flyout in right.
Sanchez finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a RBI and Stockinger went 2-for-4. Kerri Apicella pitched the complete game shutout for Catholic. She finished with seven strikeouts and gave up seven hits.
Brittany Devlin led the Crusaders hitting 2-for-3. Sarah Hoffman went the distance for Susquehanna with six strikeouts and eight hits.
Susquehanna will face the winner of No. 2 Moravian and No. 4 Juniata in an elimination game Saturday at 11 a.m. The winner of the Susquehanna game will take on Catholic at 1 p.m. Catholic advances to the championship game for the third time in Landmark history.
