Catholic Cruises Past Moravian in Landmark Softball
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - No. 3 Catholic capitalized early and finished with the 7-1 win over No. 2 Moravian in the second game of the Landmark Conference Softball Tournament.
The Greyhounds came into the tournament having never lost on day one. The first round loss is the first for Moravian since 1996.
Catholic took advantage of a Moravian error in the first inning and loaded the bases for Nina Curto to clear the bases with a double to left center. The Cardinals took the 4-0 lead in the third inning. Tori Marcavage singled to center to score Christy Sanchez.
Catholic put together another rally in the fourth inning behind two hits and two walks. Marcavage drove in two runs with a single up the middle to cap off the scoring as the Cardinals led 7-0.
Moravian did not have a base runner until the bottom of the fifth when Cassie Ernst led off with a single down the left field line. Amanda Dizinno added a single, but the Cardinals kept the Greyhounds scoreless. Moravian tallied a run in the sixth, but Catholic finished with the 7-1 win.
Curto finished 2-for-2 at the plate with four RBI. Marcavage went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Amy Laughner was 2-for-5.
Victoria Capozucca pitched the complete game scattering five hits with four strikeouts.
Elizabeth Tillou took the loss for the Greyhounds with 2.2 innings pitched. Lindsay Sullivan finished the game in the circle.
Catholic advances to face No. 1 Susquehanna in the third game on Friday. Moravian will take on No. 4 Juniata in the first elimination game on Saturday at 9 a.m.
