Landmark Announces Cross Country Awards
TOWSON, Md. – At the conclusion of the Landmark Conference Cross Country Championships, the coaches voted to select the Performer, Rookie and Coaching Staff of the year for both the men and women. The conference also awarded All-Landmark honors based on the student-athletes' finish.
Elizabethtown senior Dan Gresh was awarded Performer of the Year honors. He entered the race with the fourth fastest time in the 8-kilometers so far this season and started the race trailing two-time Landmark individual champion, Dillon Farrell from Moravian College. Gresh went on to pass Farrell and won the race in 26:22.77, eight seconds faster than the runner-up. He was the first individual champion for Elizabethtown since 2011.
Merchant Marine's Daniel MacElrevey was voted Rookie of the Year after finishing as the fastest freshman on Saturday. He placed 16th amongst the field of 79 runners with a time of 28:11.46 to give him a personal best by more than 36 seconds.
First Team All-Landmark honors were given to the top seven finishers in each race with those finishing eighth through 14th awarded Second Team honors.
Elizabethtown dominated the First Team with three honorees. Gresh along with teammates Ryan Conway and Sam Cooper were named to the First Team in the team's first year with the Landmark Conference. Gresh is a three-time All-Conference honoree after earning First Team honors as a sophomore and Second Team honors last year from the Middle Atlantic Conferences (MAC). Conway earned All-Conference honors for the first time, while Cooper followed up Second Team honors a year ago to make the First Team on Saturday.
Farrell wrapped up his career as a three-time First Team All-Landmark selection. Teammate Alec Duncan was named to the First Team for the fourth consecutive year. Susquehanna's Alex Price and Colin Eberhardt round out the First Team. The duo went 3-4 this year after finishing 2-3 a year ago. A junior, Eberhardt has now earned First Team honors at three straight championships.
Elizabethtown swept the top honors on the women's side. The race winner, Amelia Tearnan, was voted the Performer of the Year. Tearnan finished sixth at the MAC Championships a year ago, but topped her career with the win on Saturday to finish as a four-time All-Conference runner. She won the race with a time of 23:04.16 and built a five second gap from the rest of the field.
Maria Anderson was voted the Landmark Rookie of the Year after placing eighth in the Championship race. The Elizabethtown freshman crossed the finish line in 23:42.11 as the sixth Blue Jay finisher and top freshman.
Tearnan joined teammates Amanda Kerno, Lydia Dearie, Megan Tursi, and Casey Quinto on the All-Landmark First Team. Tearnan, Kerno, and Tursi make up a trio of seniors with 12 All-Conference honors between them. Dearie and Quinto earned First Team honors for the first time in their careers.
Moravian senior Emily Lambright finished fourth to earn First Team honors for the second consecutive year. She was a Second Team honoree in 2011 and 2012 before finishing seventh last season. Susquehanna's Ashley West caps off the First Team with a sixth place finish. Now a junior, she has earned First Team honors every year.
The Elizabethtown coaching staff swept both the Men's and Women's Coaching Staff of the Year awards. Head coach Brian Falk is in his fourth season at the helm of both programs and seventh with the women. He has won seven straight titles with the women and made the seamless transition into the Landmark this season. Falk has won three conference titles in four years on the men's side. He was joined by assistants Jamie McCollum and Amy Falk.
