Landmark Releases Men's Soccer All-Conference Teams
TOWSON, Md. – Three of the top four teams in the Landmark took home the four major awards. Merchant Marine's Gavin Yingling was chosen as the Offensive Player of the Year and Drew's Michael Pezzuti was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year. Benjamin Audi of Drew was voted the Rookie of the Year and the Goucher coaching staff was selected as the Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year.
Yingling led the Landmark in scoring this season with seven goals and an assist through the regular season. He tallied four conference goals, all game-winners, including golden goals in overtime against Drew and Scranton.
Pezzuti anchored a Drew defense that led the conference in team goals against average. The Rangers allowed just 16 goals in 20 games and Pezzuti was a big part of that on the backline. Both Yingling and Pezzuti also earned First Team All-Landmark honors.
Yingling's teammate Dan Weldon and Catholic's Tyler Zimmerman were also named First Team forwards. Weldon earns back-to-back First Team accolades after tallying five goals and an assist this season. Zimmerman led the team in scoring with 11 points on four goals and three assists in the regular season.
Catholic's Hunter Horvath was named to the First Team for the third time in his career. The senior midfielder was a huge force for the Cards this season, considered one of the most effective players on the team. Merchant Marine's Kyle Arestivo racked up 13 points for the Mariners on four goals and five assists. He dished out four assists in conference games. Juniata's Robby Higgins scored three goals for the Eagles to earn First Team honors.
Joining Pezzuti on the defense were Elizabethtown's Martin Fevre, Merchant Marine's Erik Kempinski, and Goucher's Brandon Weiner. Fevre previously earned All-Commonwealth honors the last two years before the Blue Jays joined the Landmark this season. He has contributed three goals and an assist from the backline similar to Weiner's dominating presence for Goucher. Weiner is a consistent defender and added three goals and two assists for the Gophers. Kempinski was voted the Mariners' top defender helping USMMA to reach the Landmark Championship game.
Drew's Michael Reyes and Catholic's Torsten Meuschke were voted First Team All-Landmark goalkeepers. Both players boast goals against averages less than one and racked up 15 shutouts between them. Reyes finished the regular season at 0.79 goals against average and .838 save percentage with nine shutouts. Meuschke had a 0.90 goals against average and .800 save percentage to go along with six shutouts.
Audi became a consistent starter for the Rangers in his first season. He led the team in scoring with four goals and five assists for 13 points. Audi contributed seven points in Landmark play as Drew earned the No. 3 seed in the Landmark tournament. He also earned Second Team All-Landmark honors.
In his fifth season at the helm of Goucher, head coach Bryan Laut and his staff took the Gophers to the Landmark tournament for the first time in program history. Goucher earned the No. 4 seed and almost pulled off the upset in the semifinal, before coming up short in penalty kicks. This marks the first Coaching Staff of the Year honor for Laut.
