Kyle Arestivo Named Landmark Men’s Soccer Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the first six honorees will be announced over the next two weeks.
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy's Kyle Arestivo has been named the Men's Soccer Senior Scholar Athlete. Arestivo is the fourth men's soccer honoree from Merchant Marine and the 10th overall. USMMA has had back-to-back men's soccer selections after Gary Poulin was honored last season.
Arestivo earned All-Landmark First Team honors this season. He was second on the squad with 15 points, tallying five goals and five assists throughout the campaign, including the game-tying goal in the Landmark Championship game. He was named to the All-Landmark Second Team as a junior. Arestivo finished his career with 12 goals and 14 assists for 38 points. During his four-year career, the Mariners qualified for the Landmark playoffs three times and won the 2011 Landmark Championship to earn a trip to the NCAA tournament.
Academically, Arestivo has earned a 3.63 cumulative grade point average while majoring in systems engineering. Originally from Northport, N.Y., he is a three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll selection. He has been a Gold Star recipient (at least a 3.50 GPA) four trimesters and a Silver Star recipient (at least a 3.25 GPA) two trimesters.
Arestivo is Merchant Marine's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president and a member of the Landmark SAAC. He is treasurer of the O'Gara Honor Society. Additionally, Arestivo worked on merchant vessels for approximately 300 days during part of his sophomore/junior years during his sea-split and earned sea-ribbons and bronze stars during that time.
