Julia Crilly Named Landmark Volleyball Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the first six honorees will be announced over the next two weeks.

The University of Scranton's Julia Crilly has been named the Volleyball Senior Scholar Athlete. Crilly is the first Scranton volleyball player to be named a Senior Scholar since Brooke Hinkley in 2008. She is the 17th student-athlete in Scranton history to be honored.

Crilly has racked up a number of awards this season. Last month she became Scranton's first volleyball All-American when she earned Honorable Mention honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). This past season, Crilly, a two-time first-team and four-time All-Landmark Conference selection, led the Royals in kills (435), attack attempts (113), and digs (366).  Her play was instrumental in leading Scranton to a 23-11 record, including a semifinal berth in the Landmark Conference postseason tournament, under second-year head coach Jamie Spangler.

She also etched her name in the Royal record book, finishing her career as Scranton's all-time leader in attack attempts (4647), second in kills (1648), third in digs (1572), and fifth in service aces (195).  She is the only player in the program's history to record at least 1500 kills and 1500 digs.

Academically, Crilly has earned a 3.67 cumulative grade point average while majoring in nursing. Originally from Rochester, N.Y., she is a three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll selection and Capital One Academic All-District honoree. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and Alpha Lambda Delta, a national honor society for freshmen.

Crilly is a member of Scranton's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the member of the Student Nurses Association. She is also involved in numerous volunteer and community engagement events in both the Scranton and Rochester areas.
