Sara Franciscovich Named Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the six winter honorees will be announced this week.
The University of Scranton's Sara Franciscovich has been named the Women's Swimming & Diving Senior Scholar Athlete. She has been a part of four Landmark Championship relays consequently earning First Team All-Landmark honors and she has claimed Second Team recognition five times. Franciscovich holds the school record in the 200 freestyle and teamed up for school records in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays as well as the 400 medley relay.
The Royals have earned four Landmark Conference runner-up finishes during Franciscovich's career thanks in part to her nine top-five individual finishes at the Championships meet. A team captain and two-time team Most Valuable Player, she has also earned 56 individual first place finishes in dual-meet competition. Just a few weeks ago, she was named to the inaugural Landmark All-Sportsmanship team.
Franciscovich has earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.79 while majoring in early & primary teacher education at Scranton. Originally from Frederick, Md., she is a three-time Landmark Honor Roll recipient and a member of the 2013 Landmark All-Academic Team.
When not competing in the pool, Franciscovich is a member of the Education Club, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Council for Exceptional Children.
