Women's Tennis All-Landmark Awards Released
TOWSON, Md. – Junior Amanda Bercovici transferred to Goucher this year and made an immediate impact on the tennis court. She finished 16-3 in dual matches this season including a 6-0 record in the Landmark Conference. The conference coaches have voted her the Landmark Player of the Year for her efforts.
In the latest rankings, Bercovici was listed as No. 20 in the Atlantic South for singles. She also earned a 15-4 doubles record, primarily with teammate Alex Walsh. Bercovici earned First Team honors in singles and she and Walsh headline doubles as well. The duo went undefeated in conference play.
Moravian freshman Brittney Eady was voted the Landmark Rookie of the Year. She went 15-3 in her first season with the Greyhounds to earn First Team Singles as well. Eady finished 5-1 in Landmark action at No. 2 singles.
The All-Landmark First Team consists of six singles players and three doubles teams. The top three Moravian players made the First Team for singles including Eady at No. 2. Melissa Follett finished 11-7 in dual matches and 5-1 in the Landmark. Zien dominated the No. 3 position and went undefeated in the conference.
Catholic's Elaina Sceusa and Scranton's Emily Walsh round out the First Team. Sceusa was 5-1 in conference play and finished 10-6 in singles matches. Walsh completely avoided the so called "sophomore slump" after earning Rookie of the Year honors in 2013. She is 13-0 in singles this season and recently earned Most Valuable Player honors after helping the Royals win their third straight Landmark title.
In addition to Goucher's number one doubles team, Juniata and Moravian claimed top spots on the First Team. Juniata's Megan Phillips and Heather Waring claim back-to-back First Team recognition after finishing 5-1 in the league this season. Follett and Erica Venuti are also repeat selections. The duo teamed up to finish 10-8 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
The Landmark coaches have sent Moravian head coach Dawn Ketterman-Benner one final parting gift before retirement. Ketterman-Benner announced her retirement earlier this month after 43 years at Moravian. For the first time in Landmark history, she and her staff have been named Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year. Ketterman-Benner led the women's tennis program to a 288-117 record over the last 28 years at the helm, and she coached 11 teams to conference championships and a pair of NCAA Division III tournament berths.
