Women's Lacrosse All-Landmark Teams Announced
TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference women's lacrosse coaches have voted Susquehanna senior Michelle McGinniss the Player of the Year. Catholic's Clair Schmitzer was selected Rookie of the Year and her coaching staff, led by Meghan McDonogh, was voted Coaching Staff of the Year.
McGinniss dominated the Landmark leader boards this season. She is ranked in the top five in nearly every major category including goals, assists, points, draw controls, and ground balls. At the end of the regular season, McGinniss had racked up 68 points to give her 241 in her career. The mark ranks fourth in the Landmark record book. She blew the career draw control record out of the water halfway through the season and continues to make an impact at both ends of the field with 47 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers.
Schmitzer helped the Cardinals earn the No. 1 seed in the Landmark tournament. In a talented freshman class, she became a valuable asset in the midfield while contributing offensively with 25 goals and nine assists.
Both McGinniss and Schmitzer were also named First Team All-Landmark selections. Joining them in the midfield are Drew's Krysta Cento, Susquehanna's Emma Ehler, and Goucher's Erin Reifsnyder. A First Team selection last season, Cento led the conference in assists (44) and points (91) this season. She also rattled off 34 points in conference play to pace the league. Ehler was the Landmark leader in goals scored with 54 and she tied her teammate, McGinnis, to rank third in points with 68. A three-time Second Team All-Landmark selection, Reifsnyder broke through onto the First Team this season after leading Goucher with 44 goals and 20 assists.
Drew's Nikki Kleiman led the attack with 52 goals and 29 assists for 81 points. The junior and two-time First Team selection ranks second in the conference in all three categories. Catholic's Lindsay Brophy is also a two-time First Team honoree and she contributed 27 goals while dishing out 25 assists to rack up 52 points. Brynn Reid is an instrumental piece of the Susquehanna offense, picking up 27 goals and 18 assists for the Crusaders.
The First Team defense features two Cardinals in Caroline DiBartolomeo and Tori Neill. DiBartolomeo ranks second in the conference with 27 caused turnovers. Neill is one of the leaders for the Catholic team. She finished the regular season with 37 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers. Scranton's Meaghan Ginty and Susquehanna's Emma Jones earned the other two defensive spots. Ginty boasts 22 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers and Jones finished with 33 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers in the regular season.
Scranton goalie Emily Towey was voted First Team All-Landmark in her first season as the Royals' regular starter. She finished the regular season with an 11.70 goals against average with 118 saves. Towey tied the school record for saves in a game with 23 against Susquehanna and racked up 21 against Catholic. She led the conference in save percentage (.537) in Landmark games.
McDonogh and her staff have earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors for the third time in seven Landmark seasons. The Cardinals boast a 10-5 overall record and went 6-0 in the Landmark to earn the No. 1 seed for the fifth time.
