Eavan Matz Chosen as Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.

The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the final eight honorees will be announced over the next two weeks.

Moravian College's Eavan Matz has been named the Softball Senior Scholar Athlete. The First Team All-Landmark second baseman hit .388 this season to finish with a .319 career batting average. Matz was a three-year starter for the Greyhounds and finished with 58 hits and 32 RBI while helping the team claim two Landmark titles and two NCAA tournament appearances.

Matz earned a 3.78 cumulative grade point average. She majored in management and added a minor in industrial organizational psychology. A three-time Landmark Honor Roll selection, Matz was named to the Dean's List every semester and was awarded Landmark All-Academic Team honors as a junior. She was also inducted into Omicron Delta Epsilon, an international honor society for economics.

Matz is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and served as a peer associate at the career center as well as a student representative to the Moravian Environmental, Health & Safety Committee. She sent the 2012 fall semester studying abroad in Barcelona.
