Landmark Releases Men's Soccer All-Conference Teams
TOWSON, Md. – It was a clean sweep for Elizabethtown's men's soccer team, as the Blue Jays took home the four major awards. Freshman Gilbert Waso was named the Offensive Player of the Year, and Rookie of the Year, while teammate senior Martin Fevre was named Defensive Player of the Year. Elizabethtown's head coach Skip Roderick was chosen as the Landmark Coach of the Year.
Waso had a great freshman campaign for the Blue Jays, scoring nine goals, and adding eight assists for 26 points. His nine goals ranked him tied for fourth in the conference, while his 26 points were second best. He tallied three game-winners this season.
Fevre anchored an Elizabethtown defense that led the conference in team goals against average. The Blue Jays allowed just 16 goals in 20 games, and Fevre was a key role on the backline. The senior was also a key role offensively, scoring nine goals and tallying five assists. Both Waso and Fevre earned First Team All-Landmark.
Waso teammate junior Jeff Light, U.S. Merchant Marine's Gavin Yingling, and Catholic's Tyler Zimmerman were also named First Team forwards. Yingling and Zimmerman both earned back-to-back First Team accolades. Light and Yingling tallied 12 goals this season, with Zimmerman not too far behind at 10.
Three first time selections make up the midfielders team. Elizabethtown sophomore Aaron Rathsam and senior Shane Votto, and Scranton's Tim Bibisceglie were named to the 2015 First Team.
Joining Fevre on the defense were Scranton's junior Pat Codispoti, and Drew's senior Daniel Giraldo. Codispoti helped the Royals backline to post a goals against average of 0.91, and allowed just 17 goals in 18 games. Similar to Codispoti, Giraldo helped the Rangers to post a 0.96 goals against average, and allowed just 18 goals in 18 games.
Elizabethtown's senior Rodrigo Barrera and Scranton's junior Eric Hintz were voted First Team All-Landmark goalkeepers. Both players boast goals against averages less than one, and racked up 13 shutouts between them. Barrera finished the regular season at 0.79 goals against average and .837 save percentage. Hintz had a 0.98 goals against average and .734 save percentage to go along with five shutouts.
In his 33rd season at the helm of Elizabethtown, head coach Skip Roderick and his staff guided the Blue Jays to a perfect 7-0 conference record, and 17-2-1 overall. Elizabethtown earned the No. 1 seed and was upset in the final by Scranton. This is his third Coach of the Year honors, as he received the award in 2004 and 2012 when the Blue Jays were a member of the Commonwealth Conference.
