Landmark Announces Women's Soccer Awards
TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference has announced the annual awards and Catholic has snagged three of the four major honors. Scranton’s Jasmine Sconciafurno prevented the sweep when she was voted the Defensive Player of the Year. Lindsay Aleman and Taylor Pisk were chosen as the Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year respectively. J.P. Sousa earned his second Coach of the Year honor.
Sconciafurno helped the Royals backline to a league-best 0.60 goals against average. She limited opponents to just 12 goals in 19 games and helped the defense to post 12 shutouts. The senior scored one goal in 2015.
At the other end of the field, Aleman was the spark for the Cardinals offense. In 2015, the junior scored 21 goals and added two assists. She also helped the Cards outscore their opponents 60-19, while assisting Catholic to its third conference title, in which she scored the game-winning goal, and set a new program record for most goals in a season.
Pisk has had a great freshman campaign, scoring six goals and adding three assists. She ranked first amongst her classmates, and her freshmen counterparts in the conference in goals scored and is third overall for the Cardinals.
Scranton’s Kelsey Bacon, and Drew’s Emma Campbell join Aleman as First Team All-Landmark forwards. Campbell picked up where she left off a year ago, rattling off 11 goals and adding four assists. The senior has earned First Team honors every season.
The First Team midfield is made up of Scranton's Christina Akalski, Catholic’s Alyssa Fiore, and Kirsten Wosleger, and Elizabethtown’s Trisha Clark. In the championship match against Catholic, the junior scored one goal. Wosleger ranked second in scoring at Catholic with seven goals and six assists during the regular season, while Fiore had two goals and two assists during the regular season. Clark has two goals and four assists for the Blue Jays this season.
Sconciafurno is joined on the First Team defense by Catholic’s Ava Brown, Susquehanna’a Marissa Heddings, and Goucher’s Lexi Solazzo. Brown has helped the Cardinals to a 16-2 overall record, and an unblemished conference record at 7-0 in 2015, and a trip the NCAA tournament. During the regular season, the senior started every game and scored two goals and had four assists. Heddings helped the Royals back line to post a goals against average of 0.94.
