Landmark Announces Cross Country Awards
TOWSON, Md. – At the conclusion of the Landmark Conference Cross Country Championships, the coaches voted to select the Performer, Rookie and Coaching Staff of the year for both the men and women. The conference also awarded All-Landmark honors based on the student-athletes' finish.
Elizabethtown senior Zach Trama was awarded Performer of the Year honors. He entered the race with the fastest time in the 8-kilometers race. Trama won the race in 26:43.77, two hundredths of a second faster than runner-up, and teammate senior Matthew Shenk.
Merchant Marine's Connor Cole was voted Rookie of the Year after finishing as the fastest freshman on Saturday. He placed eighth amongst the field of 96 runners with a time of 27:46.35. This is the third year in a row that USMMA has had a Rookie of the Year.
First Team All-Landmark honors were given to the top seven finishers in each race with those finishing eighth through 14th awarded Second Team honors.
Elizabethtown dominated the First Team with six honorees. Trama and Shenk, along with teammates Ryan Conway, Sam Cooper, Adam Harriger, and Keegan McDonough were named to the First Team.
Trama is a two-time All-Conference honoree after earning Second Team honors as a junior, and this is Shenk's first all-conference nod. Conway earned his second All-Conference First Team honors after being on the team last year, while Cooper followed up his First Team honors from last year. McDonough made the jump from Second Team a year ago to First Team, and Susquehanna's senior John Crowe rounded out the First Team honorees. Crowe placed fifth this year with a time of 27:04.98. This is the third year Crowe has been named as an all-conference performer.
Elizabethtown swept the top honors on the women's side. The race winner, senior Lydia Dearie, was voted the Performer of the Year. Dearie, a First Team selection a year ago, won the 6-kilometer race with a time of 23:09.54, hundredths of a second faster than runner-up, and also teammate junior Casey Quinto, who finished with a time of 23:09.89.
Colleen Kernan was voted the Landmark Rookie of the Year after placing ninth in the Championship race. The Elizabethtown freshman crossed the finish line in 23:57.64 as the sixth Blue Jay finisher and top freshman.
Dearie, Quinto, and Kernan joined teammates junior Brianna Earnshaw, and 2014 Rookie of the Year Maria Anderson on the All-Landmark First Team.
Susquehanna senior Ashley West and Moravian junior Meg Brockett finished fourth and fifth respectively to round out the First Team selections. This is West's fourth consecutive First-Team selection, and Brockett's first time, after being named to the Second Team in 2013 and 2014.
The Elizabethtown coaching staff swept both the Men's and Women's Coaching Staff of the Year awards. Head coach Brian Falk is in his fifth season at the helm of both programs and eighth with the women. He has won eight straight titles with the women. Falk has won four conference titles in five years on the men's side. He was joined by assistants Jamie McCollum and Amy Falk.
