Sarah Bilheimer Named Senior Scholar Athlete
TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the first six honorees will be announced over the next two weeks.
Juniata College's Sarah Bilheimer was named the Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete in field hockey for the fall semester. She joins Emma Dahmus (2013) and Michelle Campbell (2007) as Eagle field hockey players who have earned this recognition.
Bilheimer has been a steady presence for the Eagles in her four years as a member of the JC field hockey team. She has made the Landmark All-Conference team all four season making the second team in her freshman and sophomore campaigns and being chosen to the first team in 2014 and 2015 and named the Offensive Player of the Year this season. Bilheimer scored 21 goals, assisted on 10 scores, and totaled 52 points to lead the Landmark in both goals and points and was second in assists.
Academically, Bilheimer has a 3.79 cumulative GPA. Her major is Accounting with a minor in Art History. She has been named to the Landmark Honor Roll for the last three years along with being a member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad. She was a Dean's List Honoree in 2013 and 2014, inducted into the Tau Phi Society, and was a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success in 2014 and 2015.
Her extra curricular activities include designing and launching a fundraiser for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Organization. She has planned and managed fundraising ideas for Relay for Life from 2013-2015. Bilheimer has been a volunteer for Colleges Against Cancer for two years and Special Olympics for four years. She has also been a volunteer with the Student Alumni Association for the last two years. She has organized and supervised Juniata Events such as Senior Dinner, Career Day, and Homecoming.
"Sarah Bilheimer is a student-athlete that achieves at the highest level," said head coach Caroline Gillich. "She is so gifted in many ways. Combine her talent with an attitude that allows for success, and failure, as part of a path, and add in all the hard work she puts into it; its a recipe for success. She played with a smile on her face, and a love of the game. She was incredibly accomplished in her career because of all these things, and the wonderful teammates that she played along side; they believed in her as she believed in them. She is a teacher of the game and I could not be prouder of all she has accomplished and where she is headed in life. She is a student that pushes herself to do well academically every bit as much as she does athletically."
